today on this episode, we're going to be talking about a new feature, we're going to be talking about the Favorites option and the new chronological feed that Instagram is bringing out. So let's get right into the details. Today, we want to talk about a new feature. You've heard all over Instagram that the chronological feed is coming back. There's mass hysteria, I've seen so many stories about add me to your favorites, please, because the algorithm honestly just scares us all. So we're jumping on this episode to chat about our thoughts about the chronological feed all of these new options, Sonia, tell me what you think.
1:58
I mean, I think that number one, I'm fatigued with updates, like, can we just chill for a hot second? And let me live with the features that we have. But
2:09
can we really just take a moment for the fact that we have a cricket sound and we don't have the ability to start recording at the right time? I mean, let's take a moment for that.
2:23
So many issues. Can we insert a Wah wah wah sound?
2:31
native state is this glitch,
2:33
right? No. And I really would love and I'm sure from a creator standpoint, there's so many things people want. But from a brand standpoint, it's like can we get more accurate analytics? Can I see farther back? Or areas like I know you have the info Instagram? Stop gatekeeping on my analytics, bro.
2:54
Tell me Tell me watch time. I would love to know how long the averages for how long people watch my videos like tell me more. And there's I mean, I get it. They're starting to pull back that curtain but they just haven't done it enough. And especially getting putting them next to tick tock who does tell you about the watch time that does tell you about all of these, like extra little things that you know, they already have? Like I don't quite understand.
3:18
Yep. I mean, there's there's so much that we could go off on this. But bringing it back to the favorites and the new chronological feed. I think two things here. One, I think we all know if you are privy to what is going on with Instagram, meta Facebook, in the wider sphere of things legally, we know why they made this update. And while people may have been asking for it, we know that it was probably due to legal implications. So we'll leave that there. Now let's just go to what it actually means for people. I don't think that people should get their panties in a twist. I gotta say, I'm already seeing so many people back. And like, put me on your favorites list. Put me on your favorites list. And I'm like, Girl,
4:05
is there anything you want us to say? No, I don't think so. I mean, here's the thing, right? So let's let's drop it right here is people are really lazy. So you're really telling me that when you're going to an app where you're Mindlessly scrolling, like this is your entertainment, you're going to this app for that reason, that this person she's holding up a fake phone, she's envisioning this whole thing. You're gonna click onto another feed to scroll. No, no, no, no, you're not you're gonna start scrolling. Especially because I know fully well, that when you're scrolling, you're bouncing between apps, you're texting someone at the same time. You're coming back to this sooner than you meant to. Like tell me how many times you've done that before where you close Instagram and then you accidentally click it reopen. And you're like, Yeah, I guess I'm scrolling more like, I'm not gonna go to another feed.
4:58
Daily daily. I I think there's a few things here. One is like user experience, we are used to
5:05
this. So hard at this,
5:09
after years of having this type of a fee, like we are so used to it. And then you know, Harley and my friend Ali, who she mentioned that in UX, when people really want you to be able to do something, they always put it on the right hand side. If they really don't care if you do it or not, they will put it on the left hand side, hot gossip, spilling the tea. So the fact that they put it on the left hand side, no, we're not gonna do it.
5:37
I want you to do that my friend, I my listener, friend hanging out with her hanging out with us here, pull out your phone, hold it the way you normally would now reach your frickin thumb across the screen to the top left corner. Can you reach because I can't? Nope.
5:55
Especially if you have a newer model. So yeah, I mean, I think it's two things. One is like even okay, even if you are the blessing few who your followers are like, Yes, I do need to have you on my favorites list. I cannot miss a post
6:10
have fall followers who have long thumbs.
6:13
Sure, that and they do it now. Okay, so you're on their favorites list, congratulation, they have to remember, to open the Favorites list, they have to go open it still like it doesn't just show it to you, you have to still go open the Favorites list. So it's not a default setting, you're still going to default into the original algorithm based model, you have to seek out the favorite side. So I think what this boils down to is that if you are a brand, if you are a creator, do not worry about forcing people to your Favorites list. Because most likely number one, the conversion of people who are going to actually do it is going to be minimal. And number two, like once they do it, it may not actually increase the engagement on anything anyway. So you're just wasting your time, your hard earned time, their hard earned attention. You could be selling people on something in that moment.
7:13
We've said we've already had so many hurdles to get to this point, we're on the Favorites list, whatever. There's a lot of there's a lot of speculation that we'll need to be posting three times a day to even stay relevant on this chronological feed. How do you feel about that?
7:28
Don't do it? No, I feel about do it three times a day. If three times a day is in your wheelhouse, and you have that kind of time, that's wonderful, feel free, but most people don't. And I guarantee you what's going to happen is that the three times a day is going to be diluted. It will not be quality three times a day, it is very difficult to think of a quality thing you want to share a one time a day to think that you're gonna illusionary Yeah, three times a day is wild. I mean, that's why we have stories. That's why I tell people to post that three times a day during stories, because then you are refreshing your communication point throughout the day. And I still think that people are going to gravitate more towards stories as they have over the past couple of years. Because it's more realistic engagement. It feels more like you're watching reality TV of that person's life and it's instant. It's not this like you know, oh there here's a stale image. So I don't know I don't really care about chronological feed. I don't really care about favorites. I will not be coaching anyone to do either think I'm over it.
